AROVA's Bathtub Buying Guide

Discover Arova’s exquisite collection of bathtubs, from luxurious oval and rectangular designs to spacious two-person options. Crafted from durable materials like acrylic and steel, these bathtubs are not only visually stunning but also practical and long-lasting. Explore freestanding, back-to-wall, and corner styles. Freestanding baths create a bold design statement, while back-to-wall options offer space-saving luxury for any layout. For compact spaces, corner baths provide practicality without compromising on elegance.

What Bathtub Configurations Does AROVA Offer?

Arova bathtubs come in four configurations. The configuration determines where the bathtub sits in the room and how much floor space it needs, so it is worth settling on before anything else.

A freestanding bathtub stands alone and looks striking as the focal point of the room, but it requires more floor space. It is normally installed with a small gap from the wall, which leaves access for occasional cleaning.

A back-to-wall bathtub has a flat back that fits snugly against your bathroom wall, freeing up more space. It creates the same luxurious and stylish look as a freestanding bathtub, and it is easier to clean, with no tricky crevices to reach around.

A corner bathtub is designed to sit flush against a corner of the bathroom, which uses less space than a freestanding or back-to-wall bathtub. The remaining sides give the impression of a freestanding bathtub while keeping the plumbing perfectly concealed. Arova corner bathtubs are available in left-hand and right-hand versions at 1500mm and 1700mm, across the CLARA, OLA, RORY and Lena ranges.

A multi-fit bathtub, such as the LEX range, allows for varied placement. The same bathtub can be installed as a freestanding, back-to-wall, corner or drop-in bathtub, which makes it a practical choice where the layout is not yet settled. LEX is available from 1200mm through to 1700mm.

AROVA also has a collection of fluted bathtubs across the freestanding, back-to-wall and corner formats. Fluted bathtubs are available in sizes from 1350mm to 1800mm.

Can My Bathroom Fit a Bathtub?

It is one of the most common questions Australians ask. In most cases, yes. A large bathroom is not a must-have. With smart space planning and the right bathtub, a smaller bathroom can still include a bathtub and feel open, practical and well-balanced.

Two configurations do most of the work in a tight room. A corner bathtub has two sides sitting snugly against adjacent walls, so it tucks into a space that is often underutilised. A back-to-wall bathtub has a flat back that fits snugly against the wall, freeing up more space while keeping the look of a freestanding bathtub.

Where length is the constraint, Arova stocks bathtubs as small as 1200mm. The small bathtub range covers 1200mm, 1300mm, 1350mm and 1400mm. For an awkward layout, the LEX Multi Fit design can be installed as a freestanding, back-to-wall, corner or drop-in bathtub, which gives flexibility on where the bathtub finally sits. Along with a new bath, you will need associated accessories that go with it. For all of the various styles, we have the appropriate bath tapware, bath spouts, and waste. All are manufactured using high-quality materials.

Arova bathtubs run from 1200mm to 1700mm. The most common bathtub sizes on the market measure over 1500mm, so anything under 1500mm can be considered a small bathtub.

For smaller bathrooms, space efficiency is key, and corner bathtubs and back-to-wall bathtubs are the ideal choices. Where space is not a limitation, freestanding bathtubs are the standout choice, and the more generous proportions enhance both comfort and visual impact.

Does Bathtub Thickness and Construction Matter?

Yes. Thickness directly affects durability, heat retention, and long-term performance. A thicker bathtub provides better structural strength, so it is less likely to flex, crack, or wear over time, and it retains heat for longer.

Arova acrylic bathtubs are crafted from premium 8mm-thick Lucite acrylic, delivering superior strength and durability, enhanced scratch resistance, and excellent colour stability over time.

Thickness is only part of the story. AROVA bathtubs are also built with a double-layer construction and a seamless finish using advanced thermoforming technology. This produces a smooth, refined surface with no visible joins, improved heat retention for longer, warmer baths, and consistent structural integrity across the entire bathtub. Selected models, such as the Helena 1800mm, are additionally reinforced with a sturdy stainless steel frame.

AROVA stone bathtubs are engineered with a high-density composition, which improves heat retention, reduces flexing, and enhances long-term durability.

Tips on Choosing a Bathtub

The size and shape of your bathtub are two of the most important decisions in any bathroom renovation. Choosing the right bathtub shape ensures your bathroom feels balanced, comfortable, and practical. At Arova Bathrooms, we offer a wide range of bathtub styles to suit your bathroom size and design preference.

Ergonomic Bathtubs

Bathtub shapes are designed to support how you relax and unwind. Oval and egg-shaped bathtubs are widely considered more ergonomic than traditional rectangular tubs. Their smooth, curved contours naturally follow the body's shape, allowing a more relaxed and supported bathing position and reducing pressure points, especially around the back, shoulders, and neck.

The Nola Ergonomic Freestanding Bath, available in 1500mm and 1700mm, is designed with everyday comfort in mind. Its ergonomic body-cradling shape fully supports the neck, head, shoulders, back, and lumbar, and the gently reclined backrest combined with steeper side walls enhances immersion and relaxation, making it ideal for longer soaks.

In the compact range, the CORA 1200mm Oval Freestanding Bath uses an oval shape with a sloped back to create ergonomic support in a space-saving footprint.

Choosing a Bathtub Based on Your Bathroom Size

Acrylic Bathtubs: Practical, Durable, and Easy to Maintain

Most bathtubs on the market — including many in the Arova range — are made from acrylic, and for good reason. Acrylic bathtubs offer a clean, classic appearance that works beautifully across modern, minimalist, and timeless bathroom designs. It is an ideal choice for homeowners looking for a practical, low-maintenance bathtub without compromising on style.

Stone Bathtubs: A Premium Bathing Experience

For a truly luxurious feel, stone bathtubs are a standout choice. Often considered the premium option, stone baths offer both visual impact and exceptional performance. At Arova, our stone bathtub range includes striking designs such as round and egg-shaped bathtubs, making them perfect as a centrepiece in larger or design-led bathrooms.

The best bathtub material is the one that suits your lifestyle, space, and design vision. By understanding how each material performs, you can confidently choose a bathtub that looks beautiful, feels comfortable, and stands the test of time.

In short. Choose a stone bathtub if you want a high-end, designer look with a solid, luxurious feel, and are prepared for a higher investment. Choose an acrylic bathtub if you are after flexibility, affordability, and a wide variety of styles without compromising on durability.

For most renovations, acrylic bathtubs offer the best balance between cost, practicality, and design choice, while stone bathtubs are ideal for creating a premium, feature-driven space.

Bathtub Finishes Available at AROVA

Bathtub finishes are crucial because the one you choose must mesh well with your bathroom decor. At AROVA, we offer 3 types of finishes, which are;

  • Matte: A smooth finish that is pleasant to the touch and doesn’t reflect light.

  • Gloss: A shiny, smooth material that reflects light and is easy to clean.

  • Fluted: A ridge-like design that offers a break from the monotony.

We apply these finishes to both acrylic and stone bathtubs. Our tubs are also available in black and white, neutral colours that fit any decor.

What Else Do I Need with a Bathtub?

Along with a new bathtub, you will need the accessories that go with it. For all of the various styles, Arova supplies the appropriate bath tapware, bath spouts and wastes, all manufactured using high-quality materials.

Browse freestanding bath taps, bath spouts, shower and bath mixers, and bath wastes and plugs. Tapware is available in chrome, matte black, brushed nickel, brushed gold and gunmetal, so the bathtub tapware can be matched to the shower and basin taps in the same room.

Where the bathtub also serves as a shower, see bath shower screens.

Warranty & Installation

All Arova acrylic freestanding bathtubs come complete with a ten-year structural warranty and a five-year finish and coating warranty. Full terms are set out on the warranty page.

Arova recommends hiring a licensed plumber or contractor to install your bathtub. This is not only to avoid damage to the bathtub, but also to ensure the installation complies with the relevant regulations.

Where a stone bathtub is specified, the heavier weight means installation may require additional structural support. Raise this with your builder or plumber at the planning stage.

Bathtub Cleaning Tips

Maintain your bathtub's appearance by cleaning regularly with a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Use a clean, soft cloth to gently wipe the surface, rinse thoroughly, and dry to prevent streaks.

Avoid acidic cleaners and products containing lemon juice or vinegar, as they can damage the finish. For activities such as hair dyeing, rinse the bathtub immediately and thoroughly to avoid staining. When the bathtub is not in use, dust it with a dry, untreated cloth to keep it looking spotless.

Arova acrylic bathtubs are made from sanitaryware-grade acrylic with a smooth, non-porous surface that makes cleaning quick and effortless. Because the material naturally resists grime and staining, harsh chemicals are not required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a back to wall bathtub and a freestanding bathtub?

The difference is how they are placed in your bathroom. Back to wall bathtubs have a flat back that fits snugly against your bathroom wall, freeing more space. Freestanding bathtubs stand alone and look striking as the focal point, but they require more floor space.

A back to wall bathtub saves space while creating the same luxurious and stylish design as a freestanding bathtub. It is also easier to clean, with no tricky crevices to clean around.

Browse freestanding bathtubs and back to wall bathtubs online, or see both in our Melbourne showrooms.

Do corner bathtubs save space?

Yes. A corner bathtub is designed to sit flush against a corner of the bathroom, which uses less space than a freestanding or back to wall bathtub. The remaining sides give the impression of a freestanding bathtub while saving space and keeping the plumbing perfectly concealed.

Arova corner bathtubs are available in left-hand and right-hand versions at 1500mm and 1700mm, across the CLARA, OLA, RORY and Lena ranges. For a corner installation in a smaller bathroom, the LEX Multi Fit design can be installed as a corner bathtub from 1200mm.

Should I choose an acrylic or a stone bathtub?

Choosing between the two comes down to your priorities: style, performance and budget all play a role.

Stone bathtubs are made from cast stone resin, giving them a solid, weighty feel and a premium, architectural look. Their nature-inspired finishes feature subtle variations in tone and texture, making each piece visually distinctive. Thanks to their dense composition, they are highly durable and resistant to scratches and chips. Their heavier weight means installation may require additional structural support, which can increase overall cost.

Acrylic bathtubs are a practical and versatile choice for modern Australian homes. Made from sanitary-grade acrylic with reinforced construction, they are lightweight, easy to install and more budget-friendly, and they still offer excellent durability and long-term performance. They also come in the widest range of designs, from compact layouts through to statement bathrooms.

For most renovations, acrylic bathtubs offer the best balance between cost, practicality and design choice, while stone bathtubs are ideal for creating a premium, feature-driven space.

Is a freestanding bathtub hard to clean behind?

The answer depends on the installation and spacing, but in most cases it is not as challenging as you might think.

Freestanding bathtubs are typically installed with a small gap from the wall, allowing access for occasional cleaning. Many homeowners position them with enough clearance to comfortably reach behind, or place them closer to a wall on one side to minimise exposed areas. With a simple wipe-down routine, dust and moisture build-up is easily managed.

For acrylic freestanding bathtubs, maintenance is even easier. Arova bathtubs are made from sanitaryware-grade acrylic with a smooth, non-porous surface that makes cleaning quick and effortless.

Are oval or egg-shaped bathtubs more ergonomic?

Oval and egg-shaped bathtubs are widely considered more ergonomic than traditional rectangular tubs. Their smooth, curved contours naturally follow the body’s shape, allowing for a more relaxed and supported bathing position. Unlike sharp-edged designs, these rounded forms reduce pressure points and create a more comfortable soak, especially around the back, shoulders and neck.

Does bathtub thickness matter?

Yes. Thickness directly affects durability, heat retention and long-term performance. A thicker bathtub is less likely to flex, crack or wear over time, and it retains heat for longer.

Arova acrylic bathtubs are crafted from premium 8mm thick Lucite acrylic, with double-layer construction and a seamless finish using advanced thermoforming technology. This delivers superior strength, enhanced scratch resistance, excellent colour stability, improved heat retention and consistent structural integrity. Selected models are additionally reinforced with a stainless steel frame.

Arova stone bathtubs are engineered with a high-density composition, which improves heat retention, reduces flexing and enhances long-term durability.

What is the smallest bathtub Arova stocks?

Arova stocks bathtubs as small as 1200mm. The 1200mm range is a strong option where a classic-sized bathtub will not fit, or where you want to free up floor space for other fixtures. It includes:

LEX 1200mm Multi Fit Bath — the Multi Fit design allows for varied placement, so it can be used as a freestanding, back to wall, corner or drop-in bathtub, integrating into different bathroom layouts.

CORA 1200mm Oval Freestanding Bath — although compact, it is designed with comfort in mind. The oval shape and sloped back create ergonomic support.

See the full small bathtub range.

What is the largest bathtub Arova stocks?

The largest Arova bathtub is the Helena 1800mm V-Groove Fluted Large Single Slipper Oval Freestanding Bathtub, available in matte white and matte black. It is a high-rise oval freestanding design, reinforced with a sturdy stainless steel frame.

Where can I see an Arova bathtub in person?

Arova has three Melbourne showrooms, at Thomastown, Sunshine West and Mulgrave, and most products are already in stock locally. Showrooms are open Monday to Friday 9:00am–5:00pm and Saturday 10:00am–4:30pm. Call (03) 8459 1060 or find your nearest showroom.
